Well, the cruise did not get started today as planned. Problems with the generator on board the NOAA Ship Nancy Foster have forced us to postpone the expedition by several days. Looks like Thursday, August 28th is the most likely day for us to head out at this point.
Unfortunately, such delays are not unusual and they are always frustrating. Ship time is a precious commodity so any loss of days at sea impacts our ability to do science in the sanctuary. Now, we're busy reworking our schedule so that we can still maximize our time on board.

Seems the letter "G" has just not been good to us this week! First it was mechanical difficulties with the ship's Generator, which is still under repair, and now it's hurricane Gustav doing its best to terrorize the Gulf.
So, the BATZ expedition is a bust! CANCELLED, FINITO, OVER BEFORE IT BEGAN. No matter what we plan, machinery and nature often seem to have other ideas.
