2012 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Clint Moore
Oil & Gas Industry
Houston, TX
Clint Moore has been an important supporter and active advisor to the sanctuary since its designation in 1992. He was one of the sanctuary’s first advocates when the site was focused on building relationships with key constituent groups and has been an essential conduit of information between the sanctuary and the oil and gas industry.
Clint has participated in annual events that have strengthened the working relationship between the oil and gas industry and government. These events provided valuable opportunities to exchange information, while at the same time allowing unique opportunities for industry representatives to visit the sanctuary, experiencing its resources first hand.

In 2005, Clint was appointed to the Oil and Gas Production seat on the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council. When expansion of the sanctuary’s boundaries emerged as a priority for the advisory council during Management Plan review, Clint stepped up to the plate to play an important role in the dialogue.
During the scoping process for the revision, Clint was very vocal in publicly supporting the council’s proposed boundary changes and the process that was used to identify the options. He has been particularly effective in communicating industry concerns regarding boundary changes and helping identify alternatives that are acceptable for all, a process that continues today.

Clint actively advocates on behalf of the sanctuary in other venues as well, including major regional gatherings and initiatives such as the Beyond the Horizon workshop at Mote Marine Laboratory in spring 2011 and the Gulf of Mexico Summit in Houston in fall 2011.
Congratulations Clint, on a job well done, and thank you for your many years of sanctuary support!
